A Vana'Diel Journal
Chronicling the events of Zagreus, a Hume aligned with the Republic of Bastok

November 9th, 2003
My time in this world is short. The time I spent with my friends on Siren was great, and I wish I could stay.

Unfortunately, that will not happen, because friends have recently emerged in a foreign world called Midgardsormr. If you are ever in the Midgardsormr world, please look me up.

(I'm just changing servers, I'll have to pick a new name, since I'm not deleting Zagreus. Expect to see a new journal pop up once I get started over there.)

It’s been awhile since my last entry, as I have been having a most difficult time in improving my skills as a white mage. Over the past few days I have been knocked unconscious by fiends at least 10 times, and dragged back to the nearest guard with partial memory loss.

Finally, after the advice from another adventurer following the path of the white mage, I managed to travel to Palburough Mines and practice my arts on the pit hares that infest the area near the entrance. After hours of hard work, I finally managed to learn a new spell, Cure II. This was quite disappointing as I discovered that the efficiency of this spell is nearly identical to Cure, but I realize that in more difficult fights, you will have to heal wounds as fast as possible. This means you won’t have time for a lesser Cure.

When I was finished adventuring for the day, I returned to Bastok Mines and sold several large stacks of crystal fragments at the auction house. This gave me enough money to buy a nice new ring and circlet.

After my long journey, I finally made it to San'Dioria. The Elvaan race was very kind to me and offered me temporary quarters to store my items and rest at no cost.

When exploring and talking with the local townsfolk, I saw a royal knight in the weapon shop who seemed to be starry-eyed over a meager sword. While it was beyond my comprehension why someone would be so obsessed with a killing instrument, I did make a mental note. That paid off later as I found a little boy with a striking resemblance to his father crying for help in the town square. It seems he had been abandoned there and was waiting for hours. I immediately went back to the weapon shop to inform the father of his child’s fate.

Here I was, repaying the kindness the Elvaan's treated me with, and what does this man do? Scold his son for crying! And can you believe what else happened? He even gave me his sons fishing pole as a reward for his help (Which I promptly returned the still-crying boy.) Maybe not all Elvaan's are as kind-hearted as I thought.

Leaving on that note, I decided to go back to my home in Bastok for a little while until I discover more about the world.

-The Konschat Highlands, truly breathtaking, but also very dangerous-

After much exploring, I grew tired of the lonely desert fields of Gustanburg. Apparently, I was not the only new adventurer recruited to Bastok who felt this way. Narutokun, an Elvaan monk, along with a group other four others, including myself, decided to depart north through the Konshctat Highlands to see if there was another town for adventurers nearby.

After four hours of exploring, we finally came upon a small fishing village named Selbina in the dunes to the north of the highlands. Immediately, a guard posted at the gate recognized that we were a group of adventurers and asked us to speak with the mayor right away. It seems the mayor, in his younger days, followed the same path as myself, and requested of me to scavenge throughout Vana'Diel to find markers left by a previous adventurer.

As happy as I was to carry out the mayor’s request, everyone in my party was tired from the long journey. We soon found ourselves at the local inn and called it a night. However, while the others were sleeping, I grew restless. The thought of great adventures ahead of me drew me out of my bed and led me to the goblin infested desert fields outside of the city gates. Without any notice to my previous party, I headed north, hearing rumors that the Elvaan Kingdom of San'Diora was nearby.

I spent so much time just getting familiar with the surrounding area of Gustanburg that I didn't get much sleep the night prior. A group of two other adventurers; Myanth, an Elvaan mage, and Densei, another Hume thief, requested my assistance in exterminating some of the local fiends that were plaguing the locals. It was obvious that my natural ability to heal others' wounds made me a desirable choice for their party.

As I found myself in this strange city known as Bastok, I knew that my life from here on out would be changed. The world may be at peace for now, but there are still ruins form the great war that have been unexplored for years, artifacts and treasures to be found, and fiends lurking in the darkness... From today on, I will be known as an Adventurer.

The Republic has agreed to help me get started on my journey, in return for assisting them with what they call "Conquest". They equipped me with some standard issue adventure uniform clothing, and even leased a small apartment in their housing area for my personal use.
