| The Cape May WW2 Bunker |
This page was put together kinda quick. The photos I have are not too recent. This can be seen in the very first shot, because the very front of the Bunker, which is the slanted section seen at the far left...is no longer attatched to the structure. I have photos from inside the buncker, but they are...shall we say, not available right now. (Ok, I don't remember where I stored them, but I did get in there) Anyhoo, the thing was built in 1942 as a munitions magazine. The main walls are about At the time it was actually positioned about 900 feet from the shore. This bunker was meant to protect the Delaware Bay from possible invasion. The years of errosion have washed away most of the beach, and now the water flows freely underneath it. The only things keeping this thing in the air are unch of wooden pilings. I amazed that it hasn't fell down yet.

This is what you see when you come down from the Cape May Lighthouse.

Here is the front entrance. As you can see, the platform actually fell off.
The "Danger" sign is a more recent attactchment. The sign used to be
on the front of the platform, where you can still make out the wood it was
secured to. When the platform fell, the sign went missing for a
while. My opportunity to explore had arrived! When I find those pictures,
I'll post them. The second photo shows the side facing the water.

The left side, and the right side. Years ago, I often plotted to get in the
building from the right side...since it was the
only doorway that was open.
