Optimize Guides are free, easy to read, comprehensive guides for the Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems. Whether you want to improve performance, improve security or simply diagnose a problem you will find solutions here.
These Guides were started with the intention of providing a useful resource for the moderate to advanced computer users. From the feedback received so far, they have far exceeded my expectations. I hope to continually provide the same well researched, accurate, information with all future revisions of existing and new guides. Constructive feedback is always welcome.
Malware Removal 1-2-3 Guide
Malware Removal 1-2-3 Guide - Malware is short for "Malicious Software". It is a general term that refers to any software or program code designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. This includes Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Spyware, Adware and Rootkits. This 3 step guide will show you how to remove these infections and protect yourself from future infections for free using free software.
Vista Requirements
Vista Requirements - Windows Vista has modest minimum system requirements that everyone with a system from within the last 5 years should have no problem meeting. Simply adding more system memory (RAM) is the most anyone with a less than 5 year old should have to do to meet them. The most noticeable change with Windows Vista will be the new Aero interface and for that you will need an Aero-capable DirectX 9-class graphics card. This is what the majority of older systems will need upgrades for.
Optimize Vista
Windows Vista includes many automatic performance enhancing features such as ReadyBoot, ReadyBoost, ReadyDrive, Superfetch and of course Prefetching. Windows Defender and an Automatic Defragmenter are also built-in. There is simply much less to optimize. An optimization guide will come at some point but more research and testing is still needed. I recommend being highly skeptical of any existing guides since the XP Myths guide proves that many notorious "tweaks" do nothing or worse, reduce performance.

With the average life cycle of a regular PC being roughly 4-6 years, just about any PC being used today can run Windows XP.
