Rug Number: T316
Size: 63 x 33 inches
Description: Recent production of classical "wanfret" pattern in dark rust red on a dark blue field, with pearls inner border and running thunderline outer border. Examples of the wanfret motif can be found in Tibetan rugs from at least the 18th century. By some accounts, the pattern represents the "10,000 things" from the Tao, an analogy to mankind's entrapment in the materialistic world. The pile is medium length and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$225.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T322
Size: 59 x 32 inches
Description: A classical Tibetan 'Lotus Flower' rug with balanced composition and skillful arrangement of ten well-drawn flowers in four colors with contrasting seed-pods. Red, yellow, coral and light blue lotus flowers outlined in white wool on a dark blue field, connected by brown tendrils with coral buds. Note the freehand style of the blue tendrils over the more consistent pattern of the brown tendrils. This rug is clean and in excellent condition, with full pile and intact borders and selvedges. The 60-line warp (60 pairs of warp threads per foot) and double weft are cotton. The long staple Tibetan wool pile is medium length and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: On eBay auction.

Rug Number: T326
Size: 60 x 31 inches
Description: A classical Tibetan throne rug with blue "sky dragons" on a yellow gold field. This type of rug was made to be placed on a lama's chair, and has a square seat and a rounded back. On the "back", three dragons in the field, with Buddhist symbols in the top and side borders, and "waves, clouds, and mountains" lower border. On the "seat", 5 dragons in the field with "waves, clouds, and mountains" border. This rug is in good condition. There are a few foundation knots visible from the front, minor fraying of the flatwoven ends at the top of the rug, and some remnants of tie strings on the back which might have been used to secure the back of the rug to the chair. The 60-line warp (60 pairs of warp threads per foot) and double weft are cotton. The long staple Tibetan wool pile is medium length, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$175.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T332
Size: 56 x 32 inches
Description: Flower pattern rug. Small yellow gold and red flowers on a dark blue field with light blue lattice. This rug is in excellent condition. The wool pile is a bit longer and glossier than usual, with well-saturated dyes, making this rug an exceptional piece. The handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$325.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T122
Size: 61 x 31 inches
Description: Red, white, and blue peonies on an undyed wool field, showing Chinese influence in the field and border designs. This rug has just been washed and is in excellent condition. The pile is a bit "chunkier" and longer than usual, and the handle is "floppy". The ends are finished with a cloth wrap sewn on. No dye runs. This rug would pair nicely with Rug Number T336. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$245.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T336
Size: 56 x 30 inches
Description: A rather exceptional contemporary interpretation of a much older rug pattern. Red and blue peonies with leaves and tendrils on a pale rose field with clouds. End borders are stylized waves, clouds, and mountains. The center flower sprouts from a rocky crag on the right center edge. In "three medallion" rugs from this part of the world, the center medallion occupies the place of honor, and the peony sprouting from a rocky crag is a prayer to use the experiences of this lifetime on earth to obtain the wisdom to reach enlightenment. This rug has just been washed, and the pale champagne color of the wool in the field makes this rug special. The pile is medium length and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$425.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T340
Size: 58 x 31 inches
Description: A pair of snow lions with a ball on a wine-red field. "Waves, clouds, and mountains" end borders with a few "stars" in the vicinity of the stylized motif for sacred Mount Kailash at the center. The pile is medium length and even, and the handle is "floppy". There is a faint red dye run, visible in the photo, along the red lines on the body of the upper snow lion. I have reduced the price accordingly. Ordinarily I would avoid a rug with a dye run, but I could not pass up the opportunity to offer this rug to pair with Rug No. T342. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$225.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T342
Size: 58 x 31 inches
Description: Two blue dragons in pursuit of the "pearl of wisdom and truth" on a light brown field. "Waves, clouds, and mountains" end borders with snow blowing off the mountain peaks. The pile is medium length and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Note that this rug would pair up nicely with Rug No. T340. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$225.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T346
Size: 57 x 57 inches
Description: Unusually large pillar or wall rug. Two well-drawn blue k'iu lung dragons pursue a pearl of great wisdom on a yellow gold field with multicolored clouds and a pair of phoenixes at the top center. Four Tibetan Buddhist symbols - "conch shell", "wheel", "parasol", and "urn" - complete the field. Lower border shows a stylized motif for sacred Mount Kailash, with wisps of snow blowing off the peaks, and stars in the sky above the mountains. The pile is medium length and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: $375.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T364
Size: 57 x 24 inches
Description: Double mat. Symmetrical pairs of phoenixes with blue wings and light yellow bodies on a yellow gold field with vines and tendrils. "Pearls" outer border, and "wanfret" lower borders.
Price: US$225.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T366
Size: 54 x 31 inches
Description: "Tiger skin" pattern rug. Dark green stylized tiger stripes on an orange field. This rug has just been washed. The pile is very soft, medium length and even, the handle is "limp", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$225.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T370
Size: 54 x 30 inches
Description: "Tiger skin" pattern rug. Stylized blue tiger stripes on a lemon yellow field, with a white and blue border. This rug is exceptionally soft. The indigo blue stripes on the lemon yellow field are clear and true, and show the skills of a master wool dyer.
Price: US$225.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T386
Size: 53 x 29 inches
Description: Contemporary interpretation of a much older design. Blue and yellow flowers in a lattice pattern with running thunderline inner border, and Tibetan Buddhist symbols in the outer border: the wheel of law, endless knots, conch shells, lotus, canopies, parasol, fish (only one instead of the normal pair). No urn is shown. I speculate that the urn is the rug itself, and the contents of the urn are in the field of the rug. This rug is clean and in excellent condition, with full pile and intact borders and selvedges. The 60-line warp (60 pairs of warp threads per foot) and double weft are cotton. The long staple Tibetan wool pile is medium length and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. The style, workmanship, colors and condition of this rug suggest it was woven in the mid-20th century. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$175.00 plus shipping and insurance.
Rug Number: T398
Size: 52 x 29 inches
Description: A well-drawn tiger prowls the mountains beneath a yellow moon. Recent production. The weaver has woven a "flaw" into this rug in the form of a single line of blue wool pile across the body of the tiger. Was it getting dark in her workshop at the end of the day? Did she pick up the wrong ball of yarn while talking to a visitor? The pile is short and even, the handle is "floppy", and there are no dye runs. Country of origin: Tibet.
Price: US$245.00 plus shipping and insurance.
