I could have used up countless rolls of film on the scenery, and unfortunately ignored many of the beautiful flowers and plants that we saw. Nevertheless, here is a sample of some of the scenery seen on the trip.
Esquinas lodge is an Austrian-owned lodge in the heart of the southwestern Costa Rica rainforest. It has 14 cabins for guests and also houses several researchers. Accommodations are simple (no TV, phone, or air conditioning in the rooms), but it's perfect if you want to get away from it all and blend into the forest. However, it's not primitive by any means. The meals are stupendous, the grounds meticulously kept, and no details are overlooked by the staff. In my opinion, Esquinas is one of the top notch rainforest lodges out there. I've visited twice and will likely visit again.

Being in the middle of the rainforest for most of a trip does not lend itself to many human interactions beyond the tour group itself. Plus, we were the only guests at the lodge besides a few visiting researchers (it's the slow season). Nevertheless, between my tourmates, the rest stops on the road, the lodge staff, researchers and guides, I did meet many nice people.
