Results of a broken exhaust valve on an LT1 Motor
This is what I saw when I initially
pulled my Passenger side valve cover
These are all of the pieces that
I fished out of the top of my cylinder head.
You'll notice that one of
my valve locks is missing. I found it in my oil galley
when I pulled
the Intake Manifold.
This is the damage sustained by my
passenger side cylinder head. I bent the
#2 exhaust valve and I managed
to break off a piece of the valve guide boss
in the
process.
This is a shot of my #2 piston which
got pretty beat up by the valve and from
pulverizing the piece of the valve
guide boss which broke off. Pieces of the
valve guide boss ended up in
the #3 and #5 Piston and chewed them up to a lesser
extent.
This is what happens when your Torque Arm is
not up to the
torque of a 383
This is what happened to my Steve
Spohn Torque Arm (TA) after a little spirited
driving on the streets of
Tucson. In all fairness to Steve Spohn this was one
of his first units
and he has since modified his TA design to be much
stronger.
Spohn Performance upgraded my old TA to the new design
for 125$ which
seemed like a good deal to me. Steve guarantees I will
not be able to break
the new design.
