The New Dimensional Coloring

By: Susan Williamson

Salon hues are rich and vibrant right now. For more visual density, try a trio of shades that bring out the depth in each other.

In fashion this fall, you’ll see shimmery layers, lots of black, luscious leathers. The reinvention of punk and glam - with a nod to that 70’s feeling - demands more intense color. And your hair makes a fabulous accessory.

"Think coffee house colors – pale lattes, creamy caramels and deep cappucinos," say Scott Cole and Linda Yodice, Artistic Directors for John Paul Mitchell Systems, "The Color". Whiter blondes, deeper reds and more chocolate-y browns are all showcased in the company’s new Light and Bright Collection with Dual Purpose Bleach.

This gentle low-ammonia process blends three shades in the same family for deeper, more lustrous color. Just like nature intended, dimensional blending is achieved by overlays and subtle separation. When your hair moves, there’s visual harmony going on as well as great shine. Perfect for the softer volumes so popular this autumn.

Hands-on or by video, Cole and Yodice instruct professional colorists from their Color Cutting USA headquarters in Carefree, Arizona. The actual Light and Bright process combines selective bleaching with one of seven customizing techniques. It’s fast too. In only 15 minutes, you see terrific results.

If you have longer, layered hair, Yodice recommends Hand Painting. "It’s subtle and rich plus it grows out so gracefully." Shorter hair is perfect for Quick Lights, a speedy version of weaving. And she loves the new Icicles effect. "Like color melting down from the crown of your head," she enthuses. "When you team up a very pale and dark blond with red, the effect is stunning."

Thinking of going darker? For a dramatic sheen, Cole suggests a lush overlay in violet, plum or blackberry. But going more dramatic doesn’t mean artificial. In the Light and Bright Collection with Dual Purpose Bleach, there’s a natural synergy taking place between great color and its design.

This is definitely a product to ask your colorist about. New from John Paul Mitchell Systems and available in fine salons everywhere.
